Joseph R. Morris

Managing Director

Joe is a member of the Canal Pointe Investment Committee and responsible for originating and structuring investments, providing portfolio company board-level strategic support, capital raising activities, and overseeing portfolio company exits.

Prior to Canal Pointe, Joe was President of First Communications. As one of the founding members of the management team, Joe built the company from $8mm of sales to over $200mm in sales. Throughout that period Joe held overall operations responsibility including finance, legal, service and support, IT and sales. Joe was also the lead principal in the identification, negotiation and integration of over 12 acquisitions. Joe raised over $300mm of capital for the Company and in 2007 brought the Company public. Prior to joining First Communications, Joe practiced law focusing on public, corporate and international law.

Joe studied economics at Queens University of Belfast and received a bachelor’s degree from Franciscan University as well as a juris doctorate from the University of Akron.

Robert T. Clark

Managing Director

Bob is a member of the Canal Pointe Investment Committee and responsible for originating and structuring investments, providing portfolio company board-level strategic support, capital raising activities and overseeing portfolio company exits.

Prior to Canal Pointe, Bob spent nine years in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group of KeyBanc Capital Markets, the Corporate and Investment Banking division of Key Corp. headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. While with Key, Bob executed sell-side and buy-side advisory assignments for both publicly traded and privately held clients in a variety of industry segments. Prior to joining Key, Bob was in the Assurance Practice of Ernst & Young, LLP serving audit clients across a variety of industries, including industrial, healthcare, financial services and not-for-profit.

Bob graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Kelley School of Business. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).

Mark Sollenberger

Chief Financial Officer

Mark is responsible for the financial and tax matters of Canal Pointe, portfolio company financial and tax oversight and support, due diligence on new investments, and coordinating integration cost savings across portfolio companies.

Prior to joining Canal Pointe, Mark was Chief Financial Officer for First Communications. Prior to First Communications, Mark served as Vice President of Finance for Resolve Corporation, a $400 million publicly held Canadian business process outsourcing company, where he was instrumental in taking the company public in 2006. Mark previously held the position of Director of Finance at Allen Telecom, a $500 million publicly held international manufacturer and distributor of wireless telecommunications equipment and services where Mark was responsible for the company’s acquisition and integration efforts.

Mark received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Kent State University.

Sandi Murphy

General Counsel

Sandi is responsible for the legal and regulatory affairs of Canal Pointe, legal aspects of the negotiation, due diligence and execution of new investments, and portfolio company legal and regulatory oversight and support.

Prior to joining Canal Pointe, Sandi was General Counsel for First Communications. Prior to First Communications, Sandi was an attorney for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after serving as Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of ProCare Automotive. Before transitioning to in-house counsel, Sandi was a partner with Benesch Friedlander and then of-counsel at Jones Day, with practices focusing on complex corporate transactions, securities law and corporate governance including representation of private equity groups, emerging growth companies, public companies and underwriters.

Sandi received a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Kent State University and a juris doctorate from Vanderbilt University School of Law. She has been honored with the Young Alumni Achievement Award from Kent State University.

Mark T. Clark

Chairman Emeritus

Mark is Chairman Emeritus of Canal Pointe. As Chairman, he was responsible for providing strategic support to the firm’s principals.

At the end of 2013, Mark retired from his position as Executive Vice President, Finance and Strategy at FirstEnergy Corp., a $15 billion diversified energy company. During his time with FirstEnergy, Mark held a number of financial and operating positions, including Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer; Executive Vice President, Strategic Planning and Operations; Managing Director of Corporate Development; and Treasurer.

Mark previously served on the Ohio Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors, Champions Council for the Bridgestone World Series of Golf, the Board of Directors of the Akron General Health System (an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic) and First Communications, and The University of Akron National Alumni and Foundation Boards.

Mark graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Akron. He has been honored with the Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Distinguished Business Alumni Award and Distinguished Alumnus Award from The University of Akron. Mr. Clark also completed the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
